Chapter Thirteen

After he’d outlined a course of action to replace the entire IT system, Beau watched Samuel approve the estimate. Samuel pleaded for him to hurry, if possible, and time the installation with Sully’s work. If there wasn’t trouble or a delay in the order, Beau assured he could finish well before Sully.

With everything agreed between them, he returned to the office. He handed over the Charm folder to Maggie and asked for the fastest delivery possible.

Maggie blinked slowly and stared at the final number. “No way. Really?”

They discussed the invoice. She found multiple items in their stock and brought them out. She would put in the rest of the order with overnight shipping.

“I’m going to take this interface research home to work on it.”

“Are you staying home all day?”

“I can’t since I need to work on the Charm project, but I want to concentrate on the research after my days there. Call if you have an emergency.”

“You know I will.”

He headed to the conference room and packed everything in a couple of boxes. After he’d pulled all the pins from the map, he rolled it up and tucked it into a tube.

He went to the storage room that held odds and ends. On one wall, they’d installed a honeycomb-like wall system. It contained cardboard tubes filled with all types of plans from different businesses, including the county and personal homes he’d worked on over the years. As he ran his finger down the list of names Maggie had taped to the closest wall, he went to the slot and pulled out the tube containing the Charm’s floor plans. He would need to alter them to match the new construction.

Once everything was stacked up, he packed it into the car and drove home. It took multiple trips, but he managed to carry everything inside and placed it all on one of the folding tables he’d opened in what was supposed to be the dining room.

He grabbed a quick shower and tugged on faded jeans and a T-shirt with the quirky saying— Nerd? I prefer the term Intellectual Badass. He started the coffee maker and clicked on one of his many iTunes playlists.

Before he dove into the infuriating interfaces, he grabbed the cardboard tube with the Charm’s floorplans. He unrolled them across a separate folding table and flipped the pages to the first floor layout. After a quick run back to his office, he brought back colored markers, a ruler and a fresh notepad. He drew the simple grid of wires, connections and access points for the Wi-Fi with each colored marker. He jotted notes of the locations and additional options. Tapping his foot on the floor to the music, he whistled along with the tune as he worked.

After finishing the layout and figuring out a couple of issues, he noted down a list of items to pull from his company’s storage.

Once he’d marked up each floor of the Charm, he rolled the plans and stuffed them back in the tube. Now he could return his attention to the interfaces.
